Heaven’s Army Part 1: Meet LaNora
On October 14th, 2009, LaNora was arrested on her third DWI offense and was facing prison time. At that time, she cried out to God, whom she had never known, and asked that He just not take her away from her children. She was released from jail on bond and reported to her probation officer, who invited her to church. And although she went with the sole intention of showing her what a “good person” she was, LaNora accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior on November 1, 2009. Soon after, she began to have dreams and visions of what God wanted her to do to fulfill the plan that He had for her life according to Jer. 29:11. On February 2, 2010, with the help of her husband, Howard, LaNora founded Heaven’s Army, in obedience to the voice of God, but without any idea of where this journey would take her. And with no money, no job, six kids, a mortgage, a car note & all the expenses of life, she leased her first building in April 2010 and opened the doors to the community after God provided the supplies to transform the previously destroyed building into a beautiful community outreach center in East Montgomery County. As Heaven’s Army continued to expand over the next several years into seven locations & 26 different services provided to the broken and hopeless in her community and surrounding area, LaNora began to see the need for a discipleship program for the women in her community. In 2015 Heaven’s Army – Home of Amazing Grace, a minimum 1-year residential women’s discipleship home was founded. This home gives women that have been victims of sex trafficking, domestic violence, sexual abuse, and addictions a safe place to heal and gain the tools to become strong women of God and step into their destiny. “Healing from child sexual abuse is a courageous journey of reclaiming one's sense of self and finding strength in vulnerability. It's about acknowledging the pain, yet refusing to let it define you. It's a process of unraveling the layers of trauma, brick by brick, and embracing the light of resilience within. Through Jesus Christ, the Word of a God, supportive family & friends, Christian counseling and self-care, I have learned to rewrite my narratives, transforming my scars into stories of triumph & VICTORY. Healing is not linear, but with each step forward, I continue to reclaim my life, finding peace in my own resilience and the beauty the of my future. It's been almost 15 years since I broke the silence of abuse and VoicedUp!! I now work with helping others break the silence and regain their purpose, destiny and future. Healing from the past brings HOPE for the future!!”
